Mostly, you get some cutscenes where a fat man in an office somewhere talks with mashed potato mouth at some nerd who believes in aliens. This game has a story but I didn’t really pay attention. It adds a bunch of little tweaks to rebalance the game as well as including a bunch of WWII weapons that are absent from the main game, like the GARAND? GRAND? This mod comes in handy on a repeated playthrough, as throughout my first playthrough I felt like my arsenal was somewhat limited, and a bit boring. On my second playthrough, which I’m not through with yet, I employed a fairly recent mod called Real Wolfenstein OR SOMETHING I DON’T KNOW. You really have to quick save every three seconds. Enemies get decked out in the best armor and weaponry, and their accuracy goes Counter-Strike. ![]() Abuse that sprint key, run away to reposition yourself and ambush people, throw grenades, and spam those rifle ammunitions. Don’t fuck with snipers.īut do fuck with playing aggressive. I mean, you kinda have to fuck with cover if you’re new and you don’t know where all the snipers are because they will actually deadass drop you in two bullets. In order to be successful in RtCW you have to be extremely aggressive. I got through my first playthrough doing this, and upon my second playthrough I realized I was doing it wrong. In certain situations, like when I didn’t feel like shooting zombies for a goddamn week, I’d enable God mode and just stand there and chew through everything in front of me. I would quick save around every corner since dying immediately was always a possibility. So usually I did what I always do in 90s shooters: jump around like crazy and strafing to avoid bullets. Thankfully the game employs a useful lean function that allows you to peek from behind cover, although shooting as you lean is quite difficult. You will be shredded in seconds, full health and armor be damned, if you do not properly protect yourself with cover. Or something.īJ feels like he is made out of cardboard. So playing Return felt like wearing a new shirt that felt exactly like an old shirt. I spent hours playing this game, and sucking.Įnemy Territory was made with the assets used to construct Return. The servers allowed for 100 players so it wasn’t such a detriment to the team to do so: everyone did it. Dad and I would find a server that had a 24/7 map just so we could keep the game up and farm levels for every class. It was a class based, objective based game of Axis vs Allies, and the cool thing was you could level up your class (soldier, medic, field ops, sniper) to gain improved abilities. Although I never played the game growing up, my Dad and I spent a lot of time playing the standalone free to play multiplayer mode, Enemy Territory. I hold a lot of nostalgia for the weapons, the look, and especially the sounds of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. ![]() It was the coolest level I’ve played in a while! You’re always doing something different in levels that never look too samey. And there’s this great level where you’re in a city sneaking through from house to house with the objective to kill high command nazis. The next you’re sneaking the countryside murdering by knife as to keep silent. One moment your advancing through a city cautiously watching for hidden snipers, the next you’re creeping through a crypt full of zombies that throw….trash? at you. ![]() Afterward you’re sent to various locations around Germany, where you’re trying to get to the bottom of the nazis’ occult operations. Same.įirst you are captured and must kill your way out. ![]() You play as BJ Blastcoughfits, who is a man that really loves to kill nazis. Probably ran on a Quake engine or something. It was the first sequel to the original Wolfenstein, known to be the grandpapa to all First Person Shooting games, and it was developed outside of id Software. Return to Castle Wolfenstein was a game I touched lightly until recently, when I was compelled to blast through the campaign in a couple of sittings.
